Innovate Davao 2025: Pitch, Protect, Propel

In partnership with Davao Startup Week, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), and the AGILab Innovation Hub - DOST Supported, Innovate Davao 2025 brought together Mindanao’s innovation community last September 23, 2025 at the Ritz Hotel Garden Oasis for a full day of learning, pitching, and partnership-building.
The event was warmly opened by Assoc. Prof. Miguel Carlo S. Guillermo, Coordinator of UPMin TTBDO, with messages of support from Sir Ernie M. Tomas Jr., Chief of the Knowledge Management Division of MinDA, and Engr. Francis Louise C. Yap, OIC Director of USeP KTTD, setting the tone for collaboration and innovation for the participants.
In the morning, participants learned from Ms. Nichole Fortune, Intellectual Property Field Operations Specialist of IPOPHL, who gave an overview of Intellectual Property. This was followed by Engr. Francis Louise C. Yap, OIC Director of USeP KTTD, who discussed IP commercialization and tech transfer pathways, and Mr. Dexter Bermudez, Senior Officer of the Trade and Industry Protection Division of DTI, who tackled consumer protection and product liability. The session wrapped up with an Open Forum with IP experts, giving participants the chance to raise questions and exchange insights with the resource speakers.
Followed by Reverse Pitching Presentations in the afternoon session from Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Davao Research Center and Fixstat Research and Consulting, where the presenters shared real-world challenges and possible solutions to spark ideas, encourage problem-solving, and explore potential partnerships. This was followed by Technology Presentations from HEIs and startups, including Pharmashield, Agri-Aqua Value Chain Laboratory, PASYENTE Project for Dengue, and Technohive Solutions, Inc., showcasing Mindanao’s potential to transform research into real-world impact. From protection to pitching to partnership, the event showed how MSMEs, startups, HEIs, government, and industry can collaborate to shape Mindanao’s innovation landscape.
