A Potential Partnership with Department of Science and Technology Philippines Textile Research Institute DOST-PTRI

APRIL 26, 2023 | DOST-PTRI or the Philippine Textile Research Institute, headed by Mr. Audric Zureal Cruz, paid a courtesy visit to UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao. The purpose of this visit is for potential partnerships on natural fibers(e.g. Ramie, banana, pineapple, etc.) and indigenous weaves in the Davao Region. This visit is also for the exploration of the Lactic Acid Laboratory and discussion of possible opportunities for technology transfer.
The DOST-PTRI had a presentation discussing their research and development for the textile industry sector. They also presented the projects under the Research and Development Division which utilizes textiles in different uses like for (footwear and fabrics) and also consider Polylactic acid to be adapted in one of their R&D in their division. It was also discussed encouraging their projects to be one of the locators in the proposed Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Park.
Chief Science Research Specialist, Dr. Melvin S. Pasaporte also toured the DOST-PTRI in the lactic acid laboratory where he discussed the process and showcased the new equipment for the 2nd Phase of the development of PLA. This visit also provided an opportunity for discussion of the possible collaboration and adaptation of Polylactic acid in the textile industry in the future.
