Participants were able to learn the different processes of IP assessment and application, beginning from the prior art search and invention spotting evaluation up to the preparation of the patent or utility model draft which includes the abstract, specification, claims, and drawings. Participants also had an actual filing of their prepared IP documents to the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). Understanding the activities after the filing of protection was also simulated by providing examples of Formality Examination Reports to the participants while discussing how to craft a letter of response to the IPOPHL.
To practice and evaluate the developed skills of the participants two (2) mock exams were conducted by the APP for the assessment and filing of IP applications as well as for the analysis of FER, amendments of claims, and writing of response letters to the patent agent/ examiner. Both of the participants from UP Mindanao, KC May San Miguel and Kriza Faye Calumba, were able to pass each exam and graduated together with the other participants on May 27, 2022.
