Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao warmly welcomed guests from the Asian Development Bank and industry partners, including Phil-Agro, Marsmam, Belvis Farm, Rosarioโs Delicacies as well as representatives from UP System, DTI, DICT, and DOST. The Chancellor emphasized how this innovative initiative contributes to economic growth and aligns with the University's Strategic Plan
Dr. Melvin S. Pasaporte presented the KIST Park which aims to establish an innovative and scale-up ecosystem, with a primary focus on biotechnology. The initiative includes the development of research infrastructure and pilot facilities for various purposes, such as a Technology Innovation Hub, Technology Resource Center,ย Translation OMICS facility, and a laboratory and Pilot Plant for Biomass Processing, Fiber materials Development, Lactic Acid Fermentation, Biopolymer Research, Enzyme Technology, and Food Processing. Dr. Pasaporte also introduced the Lactic Acid Project, discussing its potential impact on both the local and global markets. He emphasized the project's goal of building a pilot facility to pursue its progress on commercialization.
Miguel Carlo S. Guillermo delivered a supportive presentation for the initiative, highlighting the existing technology business incubator and the establishment of the IDEAS Davao consortium that can support future startups for greater socio-economic impact. Prof. Dann Marie del Mundo, the presentation on the Proposed โFood Processing Pilot Plantโ that can increase the variety of Value-added products that can be derived and commercialized from different raw materials, especially from high-value crops, and Ediflor Yanong's presentation on the proposed "Translational Omics Research Facility and Pilot Plant" and their Therapeutic and diagnostic kit product development plans.
These initiatives will have a positive impact, providing valuable outcomes, and delivering sustainable outputs, greatly contributing to economic growth.
