IP-TBM SUSTAIN Unveiling Ceremony

As per DOST-PCAARRD’s Executive Director’s directive, to commemorate the collective initiatives of funding agencies, DOST, DOST-PCAARRD, and implementing agency, UP Mindanao, to enhance and strengthen UP Mindanao’s IP-TBM Office, a Marker, with 30 x 35 inches dimension using stainless steel material was fabricated and an unveiling ceremony led by UP Mindanao’s Chancellor Dr. Larry N. Digal and TTBDO Administration Officer, Ms. Lynda A. Buenaobra, was organized to commemorate the office’s milestone.
The program was held at the TTBDO Office in Kalimudan, UP Mindanao on 04 June 2021. Zoom Meeting room was opened exclusively for the viewing of IP-TBM Offices from other universities, DOST Region XI, SMAARRDEC, and DOST-PCAARRD. The program was also broadcasted live via Facebook, through the TTBDO Facebook account.
Chancellor Digal introduced the IP-TBM as part of the government campaign to produce more products of technology that are relevant to the needs of society.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) funded the creation of the UP Mindanao IP-TBM office through its Support to the University’s Strategies in Technology Acceleration Initiatives by Nurturing (SUSTAIN) program.
Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, Executive Director of PCAARRD, Dr. Anthony Sales, Regional Director of DOST-Region 11, and Engr. Filmann Simpao of the SUSTAIN IP-TBM Regional Mentor Agency–University of Southeastern Philippines, were among those who witnessed the ceremony and gave inspirational messages.
The marker reads, "The development of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IP-TBM) Office of the University of the Philippines Mindanao (UP Mindanao) was made possible through the collective initiatives of the following agencies: the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), and the University of the Philippines Mindanao. Inaugurated on the 16th day of March 2021, this facility development was done to effectively carry out intellectual property management and commercialization technologies and knowledge derived from R&D activities funded by the government. Since its inception, the UP Mindanao IP-TBM team has met intellectual property creators (inventors and innovators) for commercialization opportunities, developed an inventory of intellectual property assets, and listed 13 studies with potential for intellectual property protection. It has filed two copyright applications and initiated the drafting of UP Mindanao’s Intellectual Property Policy and Technology Transfer Protocol.
