UP Mindanao has been granted the Letters Patent No. 1-2017-000265 for its "Continuous-Batch Process that Efficiently Converts Starch Materials into L-Lactic Acid". Notably, it is the first patent granted for a technology developed by the university. UP Mindanao's Lactic Acid Technology is gearing towards commercialization, with the Lactic Acid Pilot Plant at UP Mindanao KIST Park serving as the first step in this process.

About Lactic Acid Technology

A one-stage fermentation process capable of converting  starch into L-lactic acid. This technology was pioneered by the late Dr. Dulce M. Flores. The journey continues under the leadership of Dr. Melvin Pasaporte, further developing the technology’s potential industrial application and economic impact in the food, pharmaceutical, and polymers industry.
